Alignment Starts With Consistent Messaging

Engaging employees and aligning them around a common goal is one of the biggest challenges and most important aspects of leadership.

In The Advantage, Patrick Lencioni explains how important it is after a big policy decision or a big meeting for employees at all levels to hear the same message from their direct leader.

This is often overlooked. A company might announce something through HR or finance, but until each team hears it from their own leader, it does not fully sink in.

When employees hear the same message repeated by different leaders, alignment starts to build. They see that this is something important to my boss and among employees, who can then pull in the same direction because they believe that this is what the leadership wants.

It sounds simple, but it takes real discipline to keep messaging consistent. When it happens, work becomes more focused, easier, and more fulfilling.
