Trust the Growth Process

You know that feeling when you're leading someone, and you’re not quite sure if anything you’re saying is actually landing?

Leadership can feel a lot like gardening.

Five months ago, I planted something and marked the spot with a small flag. Then came a brutal winter. For months, there were no signs of life.

I watered it.

I fertilized it.

I protected it.

But I had no idea if it would ever grow.

And then yesterday, it emerged from the ground with a flower.

That’s what leadership is like.

You don’t know if they’re really hearing you, if it’s sticking, or if they’ll rise to their potential.

But growth is happening even when you can’t see it yet.

You might not see it today, but if you keep focusing, they're going to do okay.
