When you live your values, people notice

Even when you think they're not listening

"Some chefs cook for themselves, like it's some sort of experiment. I cook for you, and I know my guests can taste that."

That quote, 30 years ago from my boss, Michael Romano, is the quote that converted me to a career in hospitality.

We were sitting at family meal and Michael was describing a dish he had just made. He had no idea that his quote meant anything to me. He was just presenting the special.

When you're a leader, you have the potential to inspire and change lives just with the simple things you do.

You never know what your employees are feeling when you just go about your business every day. But every once in a while you'll break through and inspire someone who's ready for it, like I was.

Don't diminish your impact by thinking people aren't listening.

They are.

When you live your values, you live your purpose, you will change lives.
